How can I help?

Hello. My name is Chad Yurich, I work as a Relational Somatic Therapist and am a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor.  My training is a psycho-biological style of counselling. What does that mean? Somatic Therapy is a body-centred therapy that sees the body and our nervous system as the holder of our life history, past and present. The somatic approach involves mindfully and kindly witnessing our inner world. Through slowing down and listening to our bodies, we can discover how the bodies and minds wish to resolve our patterns and traumas.

I've completed an undergraduate and Masters Degree in Science and a 2 year program in Relational Somatic Therapy. I'm a certified Registered Therapeutic Counsellor with the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists.

Patterns - one of my greatest strengths is helping clients understand and unwind patterns in their lives that no longer serve them. What kind of patterns? Patterns of addiction (I work part time as an addictions counsellor at a private clinic), anxiety (the pattern of how anxiety arrises, supporting yourself in the moment, tools to cope and eventually be free of anxiety), depression (understanding the cycle of depression, how to support it, how to feel what needs to be felt, turning towards ourselves and supporting what we discover), self criticism (exploring the deep pattern of why and when this tactic for protecting ourself arose and how to shift it) and trauma/PTSD/abuse (where are our past traumas affecting our present, can we bring the unconscious trauma patterns to consciousness? can we bring choice in how we respond to life's triggers.)

Attachment Theory - We need healthy, nourishing and safe connections with others to settled. Misfires may have interrupted our ability to feel safe in relationship and we may now be stuck in coping mechanisms that no longer serve us. I specialize in helping clients create secure attachment so they can enjoy the richness deep relationships.

Psychedelic Integration - Have you considered using psychedelic's in your quest for expanded growth or mental health? My experience is 20 percent is the experience and 80 percent is integration. I can help you prepare or integrate your medicine experience, helping the teaching become a part of your life.

Couples Counselling - I also bring this work to couples counselling where clients are supported in living in healthy and authentic lives in relationship.

Grief and Death

Grief and death are welcome topics in sessions. Undigested grief may be a large part of our depression symptoms. Our avoidance of true grieving is a major societal problem and working with it is a passion of mine.

Death fits into a similar category as grief, present yet hard to be with in our culture.

My goal is to help clients regain trust in themselves. Really trust themselves. Love themselves. Working together we can create a healing container where all parts of the client are welcome. Healing can happen there, old stories can be transmuted, and new life can emerge. This is my passion, let's work together.

Client health and safety are my priority. Through working at the clients speed and readiness, I support the clients exploration of themselves to bring more ease, peace and joy to their everyday life.

Life is interesting, without my wife getting diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 14 years ago I’m not sure I'd be working as a counsellor. My involvement in her healing journey opened up a whole other way of being in the world for which I am grateful. I am an open and heart centred counsellor, who loves supporting clients on there individual life paths.

I bring six years of counselling experience to each appointment. Currently I have a private practice and I contract out to the Sunshine Coast Health Centre where I teach workshops and help individual clients with addiction and trauma.

My home base is Somatic Psychotherapy, a psycho-biological model that see's the body as the holder of our life’s experiences. Through witnessing and supporting the body, there can be opportunities to shift, heal and grow.  Breath work, internal family system, mentor ship, the natural world and other teachings weave their way through appointments as they are needed.

My knowledge is not static, I am constantly reading, training and learning from peers. My curiosity is endless!
